Our Commitment to Community

The Northeast Orchestra is privileged to foster musical talent among youth and adults and to contribute to the artistic life of Northeast Tarrant County through affordable subscription concerts, free public performances and education. Our commitment to the community includes:

Our mission as an all-volunteer community arts organization. The Northeast Orchestra is dedicated to bringing high-quality, live performances of orchestral music to the northeast Tarrant County community and to fostering the musical talent of its members, who come from all walks of life. No NEO member is compensated for his or her performance; and unlike other similar organizations, no member pays dues or a membership fee to participate. Our modest ticket and season subscription fees help defray costs for music, equipment and operations while keeping performances affordable for audiences. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit Texas corporation.

Our invitations to student ensembles and other community-based musicians. Each concert season, the Northeast Orchestra invites an outstanding Tarrant County high school choral ensemble to perform on its December concert. This not only provides the students with a unique, memorable opportunity to perform with a symphony orchestra, but also benefits them through the music education delivered in rehearsals prior to the performance. The NEO is proud to have also presented a variety of community-based instrumental ensembles, opera/musical theater performers and singer-songwriters in its performances, as well as performers from Tarrant County-area institutions of higher education.

Free public performances. The Northeast Orchestra is pleased to present a free “pops in the park” concert each season, typically in one of the City of Hurst's public parks.

Our annual Young Artist Competition. Each concert season, the Northeast Orchestra sponsors a Young Artist Competition to encourage excellence in music performance among the area's youth. Tarrant County-resident students in grades 9–12 who perform on strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion or with voice are eligible to apply and audition. The Northeast Orchestra awards a $500 cash scholarship to the winner and presents the Young Artist in a performance with the orchestra.
